میں چمکیں—سرد، بے رحم۔ اس کے ہاتھ میں ایک چھری تھی، جس کی نوک چاند کی روشنی میں
چمکی۔

جیب کے قریب گیا، اس نے ہاتھ سے اسے چھوا، جیسے اس کی طاقت کا اندازہ لگا رہا ہو۔ پھر
اس نے جھونپڑی کی کھڑکی کی طرف دیکھا، جہاں اندر سوئے لوگوں کی سانسوں کی ہلکی سی آواز
آ رہی تھی۔
اچانک،
جنگل سے ایک آہٹ آئی—شاید کوئی شاخ ٹوٹی۔
سایہ پلٹا، اس کی حرکت سانپ کی سی تیز تھی۔ وہ ایک
لمحے میں اندھیرے میں غائب ہو گیا، جیسے وہ کبھی تھا ہی نہیں۔
