دن پہلے، جب زویا اپنی دادی کی موت کے بعد حویلی میں آئی تھی، تو گھر کی ملازمہ نے
اس سے ایک عجیب وعدہ لیا تھا۔

رات کے بعد تمہیں کچھ بھی سنائی دے، جواب مت دینا۔_
چند
لمحوں کے لیے پوری حویلی نے جیسے سانس لینا بند کر دیا۔
پھر
دروازے کے پیچھے سے کوئی ہنسنے لگا۔
زور
سے نہیں۔
دیوانہ
وار بھی نہیں۔
وہ
ایک ماں کی طرح ہنس رہی تھی جو سوئے ہوئے بچے کو جگانے سے بچنے کے لیے تھکی ہوئی نرمی
سے ہنس رہی ہو۔
اور
پھر وہ بولی۔
"تم
نے مجھے اس نام سے کیوں پکارا؟"
زویا
پیچھے ہٹی۔
پیتل
کا ہینڈل آہستہ آہستہ گھومنے لگا۔
ایک
بار۔
دو
بار۔
پھر
رک گیا۔
کوئی
چیز لکڑی پر کچھ لکھ رہی تھی۔
زویا
نے لالٹین اوپر کی۔

کی سانس اٹک گئی۔
کیونکہ
ان الفاظ کے نیچے ایک اور سطر بننے لگی — وہ لکھائی جسے اس نے اپنی مردہ ماں کے چھوڑے
ہوئے خطوں میں ہر روز دیکھا تھا۔
تمہیں کبھی پیدا ہی نہیں ہونا چاہیے تھا۔
لالٹین
بجھ گئی۔
اندھیرے
میں کسی نے زویا کی کلائی کو پکڑ لیا۔
وہ
برف کی طرح ٹھنڈا تھا۔
اور
بالکل اسی کی اپنی آواز جیسی ایک آواز نے اس کے کان میں سرگوشی کی:
"اب
تمہیں یاد آ گیا" ۔
