اس وقت کون ہو سکتا ہے؟' اس نے ایک لمحے کے لیے سوچا پھر سر جھٹک کر کچن کے کیبنٹس
کھنگالنے لگی اس سے پہلے کہ ممانی جاگ جاتیں اور مفت خوری کے طعنے سننا پڑتے۔ اس نے
چند اسنیکس نکال کر ایک پیالے میں سجائے کچن کی لائٹ بند کی اور باہر نکل آئی۔

ابھی سیڑھیوں کی طرف بڑھ ہی رہی تھی کہ اسکی
نظر کوریڈور کے آخر میں بنے حارث کے کمرے پر پڑی جہاں سے روشنی باہر آ رہی تھی۔
رات کے اس پہر وہ کیوں جاگ رہا تھا؟ یہ اسکا مسئلہ نہیں تھا مگر نجانے کیوں وہ ایک
عجیب سے تجسس کے ہاتھوں مجبور ہو کر اس کے کمرے کے بند دروازے کی طرف چلی آئی۔

نے دروازے سے کان لگا کر اندر کی آہٹ لینے کی کوشش کی تو اندر سے کسی کے ہچکیاں روکنے اور تڑپنے کی دھیمی
اور گھٹی گھٹی آوازیں سنائی دیں۔ مہزلہ وہیں
ٹھٹھک گئی۔ اس نے گھبرا کر ہینڈل گھمانا چاہا مگر دروازہ اندر سے لاک تھا۔ وہ ابھی
وہیں کھڑی سوچ ہی رہی تھی کہ اسکی نظر دروازے کے برابر میں بنی بڑی شیشے کی کھڑکی پر
پڑی۔ وہ تیزی سے اس طرف آئی۔ یہ اسکی خوش قسمتی تھی یا بدقسمتی کہ کھڑکی تو بند تھی
مگر اس کا بھاری پردہ ایک طرف سے تھوڑا سا ہٹا ہوا تھا جہاں سے اندر کا پورا منظر بالکل
واضح تھا۔
اور
جو کچھ اس نے اس رات اس چور دروازے سے دیکھا وہ اسکی روح کو پامال کرنے کے لیے کافی
تھا۔ اس نے صرف ایک لمحے کے لیے اندر دیکھا تھا اور پھر جیسے مہزلہ کے اندر کا سب کچھ
یکدم تھم گیا شاید اس کے دل کی دھڑکن بھی۔
کمرے
کے فرش پر معصوم گل بانو نیم برہنہ حالت میں پڑی سسک رہی تھی۔ اس کے معصوم چہرے پر
وحشت اور خوف کا وہ رنگ تھا جو مہزلہ نے اپنی زندگی میں پہلے کبھی کسی انسان کے چہرے
پر نہیں دیکھا تھا۔ اس کی بے بسی اس کے پھٹے ہوئے کپڑے اور اس کی خاموش سسکیاں اس پر
بیتے کسی بہت بڑے ہولناک ظلم کی گواہی دے رہے تھے۔ اور حارث سلطان وہ اس معصوم کلی
کو مسل کر نہایت بے حسی سے پیٹھ موڑے کھڑا تھا۔
