ارحم نے لفافہ اٹھایا۔ وزن میں ہلکا تھا۔ لیکن اس کا دل بہت بھاری ہو گیا۔ اس نے چاقو سے لفافہ کھولا۔
اندر سب سے اوپر ایک سفید شطرنج کا پیادہ تھا۔ بالکل صاف۔ نیا۔
پیادے کے نیچے ایک چھوٹا سا سفید کارڈ تھا۔ اس پر سیاہی سے لکھا تھا:
"کھیل شروع ہو چکا ہے"
اور نیچے ایک تاریخ: 14-04-2006
ارحم کا سانس رک گیا۔ قلم اس کے ہاتھ سے گر گیا۔

اپریل 2006۔
اس کی ماں صائمہ کے لاپتہ ہونے کی تاریخ۔
20 سال۔ ٹھیک 20 سال بعد کوئی اسے یہ تاریخ یاد دلا رہا تھا۔
"یہ مذاق ہے" ارحم سرگوشی میں بولا۔ "کون ہے یہ کس نے بھیجا ہو گا؟"
میزپر پڑا اس کا پرائیویٹ فون زور سے بجا۔ اسکرین پر لکھا تھا: "Unknown Number"
ارحم نے کانپتے ہاتھوں سے کال اٹھائی۔ "ہیلو؟"
دوسری طرف 3 سیکنڈ خاموشی رہی۔ پھر ایک عورت کی آواز آئی۔ عمر رسیدہ۔ بہت ٹھنڈی۔ بغیر کسی جزبے کے۔
"مسٹر
خانذادہ ۔ مبارک ہو۔"
"کون؟"
"پہلی
چال کے لیے آپ چنے گئے ہیں۔"
"تم چاہتی کیا ہو؟کونسی پہلی چال" ارحم چلایا۔
عورت
ہنسی۔ ہلکی سی۔ "قاعدہ نمبر 1 یاد رکھیں مسٹر ارحم ۔"
"کیا
قاعدہ؟"
"جب
تک بادشاہ سلامت ہے، پیادے مرتے رہیں گے۔"
میں بادشاہ نہیں ہو نا کوئی میرا پیادہ ہے۔ارحم نے چلا کر کہا مگر دوسری طرف سے کال بند ہو گئی
ٹک۔ کال بند۔
ارحم نے فوراً نمبر ڈائل کیا۔ "آپ کا ملایا ہوا نمبر اس وقت بند ہے"۔
اس
نے گھبرا کر کھڑکی سے باہر دیکھا۔ سامنے والی بلڈنگ کی چھت پر ایک سایہ تھا۔ بہت دور۔
لیکن لگ رہا تھا جیسے کوئی اسی کو دیکھ رہا ہو۔
